Razorpay and UPI payments inside WhatsApp: payment links, the Collect Payment step and automatic reconciliation

The payment is the step where WhatsApp selling used to break: "send the amount to this UPI ID and share the screenshot". Playbot puts a Razorpay or UPI link in the chat, confirms the order or the booking the moment the payment is captured, and sends the reminder when a due is late, with no screenshot and no manual matching.

Three ways money is taken

  • Catalog checkout: the cart total becomes a payment link; the order is confirmed on capture. See WhatsApp commerce.
  • Collect Payment step: any bot flow can ask for an amount, fixed or from a variable (a token for a booking, a registration fee, an advance of 30% on a quote), and continue only when it is paid.
  • Invoice with a link: an invoice goes out as a PDF with the link; the due reminder follows the date you set.

Reconciliation without the screenshot

Razorpay tells Playbot the moment a payment is captured, by webhook, and Playbot matches it to the order or the booking and to the phone number. The confirmation goes out, the bot moves on, the inbox shows the payment on the thread. Nobody checks a bank statement to confirm an order.

Dues and recurring payments

A hostel rent, a school fee instalment, a weekly lodge bill or a dealer's credit period is a reminder with a link on a date; the second reminder goes only to those who have not paid. Subscriptions to Playbot itself and credit top-ups also run through Razorpay.

Setup

  1. Create or use your Razorpay account and complete KYC.
  2. Enter the Razorpay keys in Playbot and set the webhook from the instructions.
  3. Add a Collect Payment step to a flow, or turn on checkout for the catalog.
  4. Make a ₹1 test payment and watch the confirmation arrive.

Questions we get asked

Can customers pay by UPI without a Razorpay account of their own?

Yes. The link opens the customer's own UPI app; Razorpay is only on your side.

What does Razorpay charge?

Razorpay's standard transaction fees apply, set by Razorpay, not Playbot.

Can the amount depend on what the customer chose?

Yes. The Collect Payment step takes the amount from any variable in the flow.

Can foreign cards pay?

Where your Razorpay account is enabled for international cards, yes.
