WooCommerce and WhatsApp: order notifications, status updates and the catalog in the chat

A WooCommerce store's customers in India ask about their order on WhatsApp whether or not the store is there. Playbot connects the store so the confirmation and every status change arrive as WhatsApp templates, the products appear in the WhatsApp catalog, and a customer's "where is it?" lands in an inbox with the order already open.

Order events to templates

Each WooCommerce order status (processing, completed, shipped if your shipping plugin sets it) maps to a WhatsApp template with the order number, the items and the tracking number where present. The customer gets the message on the number from checkout; a reply opens a chat in the inbox with the order beside it.

The catalog and WhatsApp checkout

Products sync into the WhatsApp catalog so a customer can browse and order inside the chat; payment is a Razorpay or UPI link; the order is written back to WooCommerce. Shipping and discount rules set in Playbot apply to WhatsApp orders.

Cash on delivery and the confirmation

Stores that offer COD can send a confirmation template with a Yes/No button; a No cancels the order before it ships. That one template pays for itself in returned parcels.

Setup

  1. In WooCommerce, create REST API keys with read/write access and copy them into Playbot.
  2. Connect or create your WhatsApp Business number in Playbot.
  3. Map order statuses to templates and submit them for Meta approval.
  4. Turn on catalog sync and connect Razorpay for WhatsApp checkout if you want it.
  5. Place a test order and watch the messages arrive.

Questions we get asked

Do I need a WordPress plugin?

No. Playbot connects through the WooCommerce REST API and webhooks; nothing is installed on the site.

Can the status messages be in Tamil or Hindi?

Yes. Templates are approved per language, and the customer's language can be set from the store or the chat.

What about my existing shipping plugin?

If it writes a tracking number to the order, Playbot includes it in the shipped template.

What does it cost per order?

Meta's per-message charge for each utility template sent, plus the Playbot plan. Replies within a 24-hour window are free.
